England Dan & John Ford Coley fue un dúo de pop rock formado por England Dan nacido Danny Seals Wayland el 5 de febrero de 1948 en McCamey, Texas y John Ford Coley nacido John Edward Colley el 13 de octubre de 1948 en Dallas, Texas. El dúo lanzó once álbumes y nueve singles en su carrera, haciendose muy populares por su sencillo "I'd really love to see you tonight" en 1976. Esta canción fue # 2 en el Pop Hit y #1 en el Adulto Contemporáneo ese mismo año. Después de que el dúo se disolvió, Seals comenzó a actuar como Dan Seals y puso en marcha una carrera de música country en solitario que duró toda la década del '80.
El apodo de Seals en la infancia fue "England (Inglaterra) Dan" porque era un fan de The Beatles, y de vez en cuando adoptaba un acento inglés afectado. El apellido de John Colley fue acortado a "Coley" para facilitar la pronunciación. "Ford", se añadió como su segundo nombre.
Ambos recorrieron la escena musical de Texas, donde había un hit, "The Smell of Incense", que en 1969 subió al # 43 en las listas de éxitos. Esta banda tocó en los mismos conciertos de bandas tales como Led Zeppelin y otros.
Su primera oportunidad llegó en 1972, con la canción "Simone". Se convirtió en un hit número uno en Japón y fue también muy popular en Francia. Sin embargo, con "Simone", no les fue tan bien en los Estados Unidos, y los dos fueron liberados de su contrato con A & M, después de tres álbumes.
Sin desanimarse, la pareja siguió hacia adelante, tropezandose con la canción "I'd really love to see you tonight", escrita por un compositor joven llamado Parker McGee.
El dúo tuvo seis sencillos Top 40 entre 1976 y 1979. Entre sus éxitos están un cover del tema de Todd Rundgren "Love Is the Answer" (1979), "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" (1976), "Nights Are Forever Without You" (también de la aoutoría de McGee) (1976), "It's Sad to Belong" (1977), and "We'll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again" (1978).
Dan Seals era el hermano menor de James Seals cantante del dúo Seals & Crofts.
Seals murió el 25 de marzo de 2009, tras tras padecer un linfoma.
